Today’s version of the intellectual hustle stars a now-obscure book about the French Revolution by Edmund Burke, an Englishman who didn’t much like all the blood, the guillotines or much else about the terror of 1789.

As Buffalonians—or at least those registered as Democrats—head to the polls on Tuesday to vote in a primary that will likely decide the next mayor, it’s still impossible to perform an accurate analysis of last May’s school board election due to the incomplete campaign contribution records turned in by at-large school board member Christopher Jacobs.

You know Newell Nussbaumer, a.k.a. queenseyes, via Buffalo Rising, the Web site he founded. Nussbaumer’s latest venture is www.estudentnetwork.com, a community-edited site that guides its users to shops and bars and cultural institutions around the region. Welcome back, my friends, to the online battle of the bands that never ends—the fantabulous Artvoice Battle Of Original Music (B.O.O.M.). Often imitated, but never duplicated, this marks the fourth year we’ve been reaching out to the local original music community, and discovering a depth of talent and drive that few knew existed here.

I was recently “dumped” by my girlfriend. We had been dating for the past year. Her reasons were that basically I had stopped being as romantic as she wanted, was not doing enough little things for her (she constantly did little things for me), she thought she was doing all the work in the relationship.
