Langworthy Paid Twice?

We try not to trade in other people’s reporting, but we were struck by a piece posted on Politico Tuesday by Maggie Haberman. Examining the $3.2 million in expenditures by the Jane Corwin campaign for Congress, Haberman notes that a firm called Lincoln Political Strategies was paid $17,000 for polling services. Lincoln is co-owned by former Niagara County Republican Party chairman Henry Wojtaszek and current Erie County Republican Party chairman Nick Langworthy. Wojtaszek is also a partner in a firm called JRK Consulting, which received another $40,000 for polling.

Haberman counted four firms that were paid by the Corwin campaign for polling services. Langworthy told Haberman that the creation of both Lincoln and JRK just a couple months after he selected Corwin to run in the special election to fill the 26th Congressional District seat was coincidence. He suggested that he’d planned to open a consulting firm before former Congressman Chris Lee posted shirtless pictures of himself on Craigslist, ending his political career and opening up the 26th District seat. “I’m a political professional, so this is what I’ve spent my career doing,” he told Haberman. “I’m going to provide services to candidates at different levels.”

Langworthy, of course, is already well paid to provide services to Republican candidates in Erie County.
