Republican Chair Should Resign

Erie County GOP Chair Nick Langworthy has been a disaster. Last night, his candidates lost the marquee races for County Executive and Legislature and almost lost two races that should have been landslides: Assembly and Clerk. Earlier this year, he engineered Jane Corwin’s defeat in a solid Republican district.

At a time when GOP fortunes nationwide were rising because of the Tea Party movement, Langworthy has taken his party in the opposite direction in part because of his hostility to the movement that helped his party in 2009 and 2010.

The Tea Party Coalition supported three key winners last night—Jacobs, Walter, and Fudoli—but stayed out of many other races where the GOP lost.

The Erie County GOP has no future with Langworthy and the elitist crony capitalism of Chris Collins. Its future is with the populist libertarian politics of Ron Paul, the endorsed candidate of the Tea Party Coalition.
