Circle Mirror Transformation

The final fully produced production to be performed on the Studio Arena Theatre stage was the Road Less Traveled version of To Kill a Mockingbird in 2008. Now, the first fully produced play on the reopened theater at 710 Main will be the Road Less Traveled production of Annie Baker’s Circle Mirror Transformation, directed by Scott Behrend, and starring Lisa Vitrano, Dave Hayes, Morgan Chard, Robert Rutland, and Kelsey George Mogensen.

The fabulous Ellen Burstyn (pictured above), who turned 80 this past December, is back on Broadway starring in the revival of William Inge’s Picnic (through February 24). Winner of the 1975 Tony award for her performance in Same Time, Next Year, Burstyn’s recent three Broadway outings had very short runs.

Its full (and rather cumbersome) name is Mitsubishi i-MiEV—the MiEV part standing for “Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle.” I don’t know who their capitalization consultant was, but I suspect it was someone who thought a random mix of upper- and lower-case letters was “hip.” To me it’s just confusing.

Tom Van Deusen studied art at the University at Buffalo. After graduating in 2008, he helped found the arts group Sugar City and lived above their Wadsworth location for a while. He has since helped start the quarterly comics tabloid Intruder, and some of his own titles include Eat Eat Eat, A Matter of Life and Death, and Scorched Earth.
