ALICE IN THE CITIES (1974)—The first entry in German auteur Wim Wender’s “Road Movie Trilogy” centers on a journalist who embarks on a search for the grandparents of a girl whose been left in his care. Presented by the Cultivate Cinema Circle. North Park Thu 9:30

FANTASIA (1940)—75th anniversary presentation of Walt Disney’s magnum opus which brought to life his vision of blending animated imagery with classical music, resulting in not only his boldest, most ambitious experiment, but arguably his greatest feature as well. Directed by Eastern Hills Sun 2 7

NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959)—Alfred Hitchcock’s classic and visually iconic suspense thriller about a New York ad exec (Cary Grant) pursued by ruthless spies who have mistaken him for a government agent set the standard for countless espionage films to follow, though few would be able to match the excitement provided by the Master of Suspense. PRINCESS MONONOKE (1997)—Japanese master Hayao Miyazaki’s animated fantasy pits civilization vs. nature in telling the story of a young warrior who becomes involved in the struggle of a forest princess whose people’s homeland is being encroached upon by the forces of mechanization.
