BUFFALO Beer: 2016 Events
Buffalo Niagara Brewers Assosication enter its 3rd year

The Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association (BNBA), a collection of Buffalo craft beer brewers and industry professionals, promotes the growth of the craft beer industry in the entire Buffalo-Niagara region. The mission of the Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association is to unify the Buffalo Niagara craft beer community in order to increase regional sales of craft beer through promotions, marketing, public awareness, consumer education, and to monitor and assure a thriving craft beer and brewing industry within the region.

The BNBA Board of Directors is made up of Willard Brooks (President), Tim Herzog (VP; Flying Bison Brewing Company), Cory Van Deusen (Treasurer; CPA with Lumsden McCormick), Dan Giacomini (secretary; Entercom Communications), Brian Melber (General Counsel, Personius Melber), Ted Hawley (Program Chair; New York Craft Malt), Jeff Ware (Membership Chair; Resurgence Brewing Company), Earl Wells III (PR Chair; e3communications), Matthew Kahn (Big Ditch Brewing Company), Mark Notarius (Premier Gourmet), David Rivers (Kegworks), John Russo Jr. (Hamburg Brewing Company), Dan Syracuse (Pizza Plant), Dave Giczkowski (Southern Tier Brewing Co.), and Scott McMillan (Enthusiast Membership Co-Chair; BNBA’s Buffalo Beer League).

“There is a renaissance in cities across America, including Buffalo, in re-discovering the heritage of craft beer making,” said Willard Brooks, Chairman of the BNBA Board of Directors. “Making beer locally by using local ingredients and local products was how beer historically was made in our country since colonial times. Beer making is just going back to its natural roots and in turn is creating a new economy not only in supply chain and locally grown products, but also as a tourism draw bringing beer enthusiasts to Western New York, especially from Canada.”

In 2016, the BNBA will present several events, dates are still finalizing, but here’s a glimpse:

Winter Blues Weekend in Ellicottville, NY. Outdoor and indoor blues shows featuring local WNY breweries doing tap events at village pubs. January 22—24 2016

Half Way There—local breweries and guest breweries from around the globe present rare and one-off beers one Saturday afternoon in early April.

3rd Annual Farm-to-Pint Fete—brews made by local breweries made from from locally grown and produced malts and hops. May 15 from Noon to 5PM at Hamburg Brewing Company.

3rd Annual Buffalo Brewers Festival @ Canalside marquee summer festival with 30+ New York State and guest breweries, local chefs and food trucks, and a Meet-the-Brewer tent.

7th Annual Buffalo Beer Week—Marquee fall event right around the time of the 7th Annual Ball Park Brew Bash put on by the Bisons and Consumers. Sept 23—Oct 2.

1st Annual Canadian-American Beer Festival—a two day cross border beer festival in Niagara Falls USA and Niagara Falls Canada. Stay tuned. October 28th & 29th.

“Successful growing festivals like Buffalo Beer Week and the Buffalo Brewers Festival highlight how strong an impact local craft brewing has on the revitalization of Western New York,” Brooks says. “The BNBA was formed as a way to showcase Buffalo’s rich beer-making history and to stimulate further interest in the local beer industry from surrounding counties in the region, as well as Rochester and especially Southern Ontario.”

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has recognized the positive impacts of the craft brew industry through initiatives such as Taste NY. The Governor and the State Legislature have passed legislation that supports craft breweries, increases demand for locally grown farm products and expands industry related economic development and tourism. The BNBA’s mission is to advocate for the craft brewing industry on behalf of the local industry and supply chain partners in Western New York.

“Legislative action such as ‘Taste NY’ further reflects the growing demand and interest in making craft breweries part of New York State’s many tourist attractions,” said BNBA board member Tim Herzog, and general manager of Flying Bison Brewery Company. “Harnessing the opportunity to further develop the industry through the BNBA is key to making this movement an integral part of Buffalo’s evolving economic landscape.”
