El Ten Eleven with Lazlo Hollyfeld and Stand By Red Five (June 18)

El Ten Eleven

California-based post-rock rock duo El Ten Eleven formed in 2004, after bassist/composer Kristian Dunn and drummer Tim Fogarty had left the experimental/organic/electronic four-piece they were playing with to strike out on their own. The music is a kind of ambient Americana, similar to the sound of Calexico if it merged with the weirdness of Tortoise or Sigur Ros. The two are also part of the San Diego band SoftLightes, and furnished much of the soundtrack to 2007’s independent documentary Helvetica, a movie about the typeface, a font whose beauty and elegance might compare to El Ten Eleven’s music, however odd that may sound. The show is headlined by Buffalo’s own Lazlo Hollyfeld, with support from Stand By Red Five. Doors open at 8pm on Wednesday (June 18), at Mohawk Place.
