Hell Hole Honeys

Riot At Alleyway Theatre!

Since Todd Warfield arrived at the Alleyway Theatre, sojourns into the high camp realm of Reefer Madness or into the Halloween hell house have become more frequent. This week, Alleyway presents the world premiere musical Hell Hole Honeys by Ben Budick, Steve Mackes, and David Ogrin, directed (surprise, surprise!) by Todd Warfield!

The company has established a talented corps of resident zanies who will appear in the show. These include Kim Piazza, Stephanie Bax, Victoria Perez, and Pamela Rose Mangus.

This may be a world premiere, but the plot sounds strangely familiar. “Mary Jo Huntsinger, cable access news reporter and former local beauty queen, has been thrown in the horrific Bellpole Women’s Maximum Security Prison for not revealing her sources in a high-profile city corruption case.”

Press materials describe the piece as “part paean to ’50s ‘women in prison’ movies, part hip-hop musical.” The dramatic question is, ‘Will wholesome Mary Jo survive her prison experience—the violence, the drugs, the rough lesbian sex—or will she, too, become a Hell Hole Honey?’

The show is “Suitable for Adult Audiences”—as if we needed to be told. Prepare to laugh.
