Stockard Channing

The fabulous Stockard Channing, who just turned 65 last week, is back on Broadway starring in the classic Rodgers & Hart musical Pal Joey. The production has been extended through March 1. Channing, who has been working regularly on TV over the past few years, last appeared on Broadway in the revival of The Lion in Winter in 1999. Back in 1984, Channing co-starred with Chita Rivera in The Rink, taking over for Liza Minnelli who had to leave the show unexpectedly.

UB’s Intermedia Performance Studio in collaboration with the Real Dream Cabaret will present the world premiere of WoyUbu, adapted from Buchner’s Woyzeck and Jarry’s Ubu Roi. Directed by Sarah Bay-Cheng, the show will star Joe Wiens, Kate LoConti, and members of the Real Dream Cabaret, with live original music composed and performed by David Kane. The production opens March 13 in the Downtown IPSpace located at 1716 Main Street. For tickets and further information, check out www.woyubu.org

Shakespeare in Delaware Park’s 15th Annual Fabulous Feast, always one of the year’s most fun events, will take place on Saturday March 28, 6-10pm at the Connecticut Street Armory. The summer season kicks off June 18 with The Tempest, followed by Julius Caesar on July 23rd.

Artpark will hold a 35th Anniversary Gala on May 2 at 6pm at the Niagara Falls Country Club. The gala will include a tribute to the late Senator Earl. W. Bridges, Sr. who launched the creation and building of Artpark in 1974. For tickets, call 754-9000, ext. 124. By the way, this summer’s musical will be the popular Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin will be taking their concert of duets An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin on an official tour this spring. The Broadway stars have been performing the show since 2002 in different locations around the country. The tour will kick off March 7 at the Staller Center in Stony Brook. It will be at Shea’s on May 2. LuPone was expected to finish her contract in Gypsy on March 1 but the show closed earlier than expected, on January 11.

Eric Alsford was just nominated for a Carbonell Award for Musical Direction for his work on Adding Machine. The awards celebrate excellence in South Florida theater. Alsford did the music supervision for the upcoming Musicalfare production of Sunday in the Park with George.

James Whitmore

BUA will be moving into its own performance space in the very near future. An open house to check out the new location will be held on Friday, February 27 from 5:30-7:30pm. Stop by 119 Chippewa, between Delaware and Elmwood.

Former Studio Arena executive director Ken Neufeld will be conducting the workshop 10 Steps to a Breakthrough Board on March 2nd 3-5pm at the Olmsted Center. Registration fee is $25. For information call 390-3152. Neufeld is the president of Ken Neufeld & Associates and Breakthrough Boards.

Actor James Whitmore, died on February 6 at the age of 87. Whitmore spent much of his youth in Buffalo, and had some of his early acting experiences working for Miss Keeler at the Studio Theatre here. He received a 1948 Tony Award for Outstanding Performance by a Newcomer. He was last seen in Buffalo at Studio Arena in 1999 in Last Love, starring opposite his ex-wife Audra Lindley.
