Average annual salary of the roughly 300,00 New York state workers. Four public sector unions appeared in court on May 26 to fight Gov. David Paterson’s proposal to furlough 100,000 state workers by one day a week. If implemented, the move would save $30 million each week and curtail the state’s 9.2 billion deficit. A state court issued a temporary restraining order earlier this month to block Paterson’s attempt. |

Parks and historical sites—including four in Erie County—that were closed on May 17 as part of Gov. David Paterson’s plan to help curb the budget deficit. The savings from reduced maintenance and payroll will amount to roughly $12 million, a mere 0.0013% of the state’s $9.2 billion projected deficit. Among the parks closed locally are Hamburg’s Woodlawn Beach and Knox Farm in the Town of Aurora. |

Cheapest daily rate per passenger vehicle for day-of-game parking at Ralph Wilson Stadium (cash lots, 1,2,3,5,E and F). The NFTA is currently considering eliminating its’ bus routes to the stadium on gamedays unless an agreement can be reached with the team to subsidize the route. Of the 490,989 fans who attended games last season, just 1,556 rode the NFTA route. |
