10 Fall Concerts

AV’s music editor recommends these autumn shows
Music Is Art
The festival, now in its 12th year, returns to Delaware Park for an all day party featuring dozens of local bands and artists on September 13.
Deafheaven
Shoegazing black metal band Deafheaven bring their effortless dissonance to the Tralf Music Hall on September 18.
Jeff Tweedy
Earlier this summer, Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy announced that he’d be releasing a new record, Sukierae, simply as Tweedy. He was quick to clarify though, that the new band will not be a solo project, but a duo with his 18-year-old son, Spencer. Tweedy comes to the Town Ballroom on October 1
Ab-Soul
Frequent collaborator with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, and Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul comes to the Waiting Room on October 2 in support of his latest record, These Days...
Tokimonsta
Los Angeles beat-smith, Tokimonsta, has become an essential element of the Brainfeeder records roster. She’ll bring her blend of hip hop, electronica, and indie to The Waiting Room in support of her latest “mini album” Desiderium on October 6.
Merchandise
People keep calling Merchandise a punk band, but if that were ever the case, it certainly isn’t anymore. On After The End, the Florida band’s third record and first for popular indie rock label 4AD, they’ve finally evolved into a full on pop band as evidenced by cuts like “Little Killer.” They’ll come to Buffalo Iron Works on October 13.
White Fence
At first, Tim Presely, aka White Fence, sounded like he could be Ariel Pink’s best friend. Now, with the help of producer Ty Segall, White Fence has moved from the mosaic AM radio fuzz-frenzy of records like Family Perfume Vol. 1, to a psychedelic garage-folk sound on his latest release, For The Recently Found Innocent. Check out White Fence at the Tralf Music Hall on October 18.
New Found Glory
It’s appropriate that New Found Glory’s upcoming record is titled Resurrection because many considered the band dead after founding member, guitarist Steve Klein, was arrested on felony charges including lewd acts with a minor last year. The band has moved on though, as a four-piece, and will hopefully win some of their fans back with what lead guitarist Chad Gilbert is calling their “biggest sounding record” yet. New Found Glory come to the Town Ballroom on October 21.
Umphrey’s McGee
The progressive jam band from South Bend, Indiana comes to the Rapids Theater on October 23 in support of their album, Similar Skin, released earlier this summer.
Rusko
Dubstep is certainly not a dirty word to Rusko. The English DJ who helped popularize the genre in the US with his 2007 FabricLive mix featuring Caspa, recently released a set of hi-def, booming dubstep tracks on his latest EP, !. With !, Rusko proves that though there are fewer players, he’s still one of the best in the game. He comes to the Town Ballroom on November 8.
