Saffire: The Uppity Blues Women
by Caitlin DeRose
Saffire “The Uppity Blues Women” are an acoustic threesome who play big, brassy blues. Ann Rabson plays boogie piano and finger-picked guitar, Gaye Adegbalola plays guitar and harmonica and Andra Faye plays bass, guitar, mandolin and fiddle, all of which produces that distinctly ‘uppity’ sound. Each woman is an accomplished vocalist as well, passing songs and solos back and forth during rambunctious onstage performances that have come to define the group. They don’t take directions from anyone, and they will tell you all about it through their daring, opinionated yet wise lyrics, which have already filled six full-length albums on Alligator Records. You won’t want to miss this show on Saturday (June 2) at the Tralf Music Hall. Doors open at 7pm
