Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Loraine O’Donnell returns this week with her winning portrayal of Hedwig, the transgender singer for an East German rock band. (She had the surgery as a means to escape the East, only to watch the Berlin Wall fall from a trailer park, while her dreams comes tumbling down, too.) The show is by John Cameron Mitchell, who originated the role, with Stephen Trask, presented by LOL Productions, directed by Michael Walline. O’Donnell, who won an Artie for her performance, is among the only women ever to assay the role successfully. She is joined on stage by Kerrykate Abel, and the band Billy Draws 2. Hedwig will be around until November 3, at the New Phoenix Theatre (95 Johnson Park). Call 853-1334.
