Jersey Boys

The Jersy Boys in the recording studio.

Next week, Jersey Boys, the greatest jukebox musical of them all, makes a return visit to Shea’s. In a show chock-a-block full of the hits of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, we follow the formation, triumph, and eventual break-up of the group.

Before it’s over, we’ll hear a litany of songs that includes “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” “My Eyes Adored You,” “Oh, What a Night,” “Sherry,” and “Working My Way Back to You.”

The title of the Tony, Grammy, and Olivier Award winning show refers to the Four Seasons’ origins in New Jersey. Far from a cleaned-up fairy-tale version of events, Jersey Boys is peppered with enough salty language and adult situations to qualify the piece as entertainment for grownups only.

Critical reception to Jersey Boys has been ecstatic everywhere. Writing for the New York Times, Ben Brantley enthused that “The crowd goes wild,” and then specified that he was “talking about the real, mostly middle-aged crowd who seem to have forgotten what year it is or how old they are or, most important, [the actor they are seeing] is not Frankie Valli. And everything that has led up to that curtain call feels, for just a second, as real and vivid as the sting of your hands clapping together.

The musical will make its return to Buffalo to play Shea’s Performing Arts Center May 8-18. Shea’s assures us that tickets are available for all performances! Tickets are available by calling 1-800-745-3000, online at ticketmaster.com, and at the Shea’s Ticket Office. For more information, visit www.JerseyBoysTour.com or www.sheas.org.
