Places to take kids while school's out.
YMCA Winter Adventure Camp:
December 26-29; 9am-4:30pm
Ages: 6-11
Activities include ice skating, sledding, arts and crafts, swimming, bowling, sports etc. Registration deadline is December 15; contact Anna at 356-1453.
Also at the YMCA:
December 11, 26-29; 1-5pm
Ages: 8 and up
Indoor activities such as climbing the wall, skating, shooting hoops and hanging out in the youth and team center. Parents must sign children in and out. Registration is at 12:30pm.
At the Buffalo Zoo:
December 26-29; half day 9am-noon or 1-4pm; full day 9am-4pm
Ages/Groups: Snow Monkeys 5-6; Snow Leopards 7-8; Snow Owls 9-12
Exhibit visits, animal information sessions, games, songs, stories and live animal contact. Great educational experience. Half day $20 for members, $25 for non-members. Full day $36 for members, $45 for non-members.
At the Elmwood Science Spot—
Science of Snow Mini Camp:
December 21&22; 9am-4:30pm
Ages: all ages
Mini-campers can discover properties of snow, how animals adapt to winter weather. Children can even make a fun winter game to take home. $125 per child, $100 per additional sibling.
Also at the Elmwood Science Spot—Chillin’ out at the Science Spot:
December 27-29; noon-5pm
Ages: All ages
Children can learn hands on about snow science, winter cultural activities and will even perform some crystal experiments. $10/hour.
Lancaster Opera House—
Glen Colton Holiday Show:
December 27th; noon
Ages: All ages
Special Christmas performance by the ever-popular children’s performer. $8.
Openheim Park, Wheatfield—
Holiday Lights of Niagara:
Through December 31st; 5-9pm
Ages: All ages
Free children’s crafts, photos with Santa or gingerbread people and Santa’s Secret Shop.
