Film Opening This Week:

THE FALL—Lavish fantasy filmed in 18 countries about the fanciful story told by a paralyzed actor to a young girl he meets in the hospital. Starring Lee Pace, Justine Waddell and Catinca Untaru, Directed by Tarsem Singh (The Cell). Reviewed this issue. Eastern Hills

FUGITIVE PIECES— Saved from death at the hands of the Nazis in his native Poland, a boy rows into adulthood unable to forget about his sister, his one relative who may have survived. Starring Stephen Dillane, Rade Sherbedgia, and Rosamund Pike. Directed by Jeremy Podeswa (The Five Senses). Reviewed this issue. North Park

THE INCREDIBLE HULK—Officially this is a sequel, but with Edward Norton (who wanted the role in the first movie) on board as Bruce Banner and the less ambitious Louis Leterrier (The Transporter) behind the camera in place of arthouse auteur Ang Lee, think of it as a new beginning for what an inevitable series. Liv Tyler, Tim Roth and William Hurt star, with a cameo by Lou Ferrigno. Flix, Maple Ridge, Market Arcade, Regal Elmwood, Regal Hollywood, Regal Quaker, Regal Transit, Regal Walden Galleria

THE HAPPENING—Presumably chastened after his ego-ridden flop Lady in the Water, M. Night Shyamalan returns to more familiar ground with a story about the last survivors of a disaster that wipes out most of mankind—and may still get them. Bad sign: The studio doesn’t seem very eager to let the press see it. Starring Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel, Betty Buckley and John Leguizamo. Flix, Market Arcade, Regal Elmwood, Regal Hollywood, Regal Quaker, Regal Transit, Regal Walden Galleria

STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE—Documentarian Errol Morris (The Thin Blue Line, The Fog of War) turns his camera on some of the soldiers seen in those shocking photos from Abu Ghraib prison. Reviewed this issue. Amherst
